a word about photographers

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

there has been a lot of media coverage regarding the collapse of Celebration Studios in New Jersey and the hundreds of couple who have been left empty-handed. If you are getting married and you value photography, I can’t stress how important it is to contract directly with a photographer. I also feel that this incidence has tarnished the reputation of photographers in general, so I wanted to point out one of the many wonderful things that local photographers are doing for those affected by the downfall of this large studio.

Meet Jason Groupp. Jason is an extraordinary photographer and an extraordinary human. He spends most of his time photographing weddings for upper-crust Manhattanites in venues that are beyond my wildest dreams. Jason has graciously offered to provide his services for FREE to a couple who has been left out in the cold by Celebration Studios. Check out his blog post here. If you know of someone who fits the bill, send them over to his blog.

Me Ra Koh’s workshop!!

Sunday, November 4th, 2007

And yes, the summer was rough, but there is a silver lining to it. In August, famed photographer Me Ra Koh ran a contest searching for a “mom running on empty” who deserved a spot in one of her photography workshops. Having read about the contest on the same day I came home from the hospital with Kendall for the second time, I decided to nominate myself. The outpouring of support from my friends was incredible. When Me Ra saw my website, she was so impressed that instead of inviting me to her basic workshop, I had the chance to attend her advanced 2-day workshop. To top it all off, Kristy and Aaron, owners of The Villa where the workshop was held, graciously donated a stay at their beautiful inn to me.

Needless to say, the past few months have been a whirlwind of activity and incredibly exciting.

…talk about creative inspiration…

Fast-forward to today. Me Ra’s workshop was last weekend and it was the amazing experience I knew it would be. I talked a lot with Me Ra about whether or not I should venture into wedding photography. While I think I would still like to wait until the kids get a little older, these images have my interest piqued. What do you think?

Bouncing the light (aka Foofing)
